The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled a notorious child trafficking syndicate allegedly led by a suspect identified as Mama Faith, currently held at the Ibara Correctional Centre.
Three accomplices: ThankGod Taiwo 35, Patience Chikezie 54, and Oluyinka Folake 43,have been arrested for their involvement in the abduction and sale of children.
Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Friday, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, detailed the syndicate’s operations.
Taiwo was apprehended at his hideout after abducting a seven-year-old girl, Mercy Akande, whom he sold to Chikezie for ₦650,000 at Ipaja Roundabout, Lagos. Police rescued Mercy unhurt at Chikezie’s residence in Lafenwa-Itele on December 29.
Investigations revealed Chikezie had previously bought a three-year-old boy, Mohees Daniel, for ₦250,000 and sold him for ₦3 million. She also purchased another child, David Jesulayomi, from Oluyinka for ₦1.5 million, intending to sell him for profit.
The suspects confessed to working under Mama Faith, who orchestrated the illegal operations. CP Ogunlowo, who assumed office three weeks ago, warned criminals to desist from illicit activities, promising a crackdown on crime.
He urged residents to provide timely intelligence to aid police efforts in maintaining security.
This marks a significant victory against child trafficking in Ogun State.
